
Earlier this year, the Nature scientific journal reported research conducted by Dr. Lina Mercado from the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology from 1960-1999 showing that our hazy and polluted skies are actually helping plants in our global warming fight. The study reported that plants stored 23.7% more CO2—the leading greenhouse gas causing climate change—thanks to a higher efficiency of photosynthesis in plants shaded by smog.
