My friend was talking up their new toilet as being their family’s new way of being Green. I thought it’s just a toilet how green can a toilet be? Then I saw it.
It wasn’t just a toilet. It was a machine! The toilet welcomes you as you approach it by raising up the lid and salutes you goodbye by closing the lid. This commode even has it’s own remote. As with many high-end gadgets the features seem endless – auto flush, gentle aerated warm water, massage feature, warm air drying, heated seats, etc.
But why is this toilet being touted as a green toilet. I found out it wasn’t for its several thousand dollar price tag, but because of its front and rear washing features reducing the need for toilet paper.
But how much TP would one save? Well, according to the makers of Charmin, the average person uses 57 sheets of toilet paper per day. The typical roll has 352 sheets. This works out to be almost 21,000 sheets or 60 rolls. With the average cost of a 12 pack of TP at $6.99, the yearly cost of TP for a family of four would be around $140. It would take at least 10 years in savings for the this toilet to pay for itself.
