Anyone living in California is aware of the drought. I attended a seminar a couple weeks ago and the discussion focused on new ways to manage California’s water. One of the biggest issues is how water is used in agriculture, amounting to 85% of all developed water in the state. And cotton is the crop with the greatest irrigated acreage. Cotton for our clothing and all types of other things is very water intensive. Is there an alternative? Absolutely, some pretty interesting ones! Since it looks like I may be needed some cold-weather attire in the near future, I thought I would start off looking for some eco-friendly items. In my search for “eco-friendly boots” I found Pristine Planet. This site wants you to compare all of the brands featured, so that you can see how eco-friendly the products are. They have check marks that tell you if the manufacturer is sweat-shop free, uses hemp, gives to charitable donations, etc. Read more…

The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots – most people probably know this already. Read more…
