As most of us know, Petroleum jelly (vaseline, paraffin jelly, petrolatum) comes from Petroleum, a non-renewable resource. Although Petroleum is non toxic, it can cause allergic reactions to sensitive skin and diarrhea if too much in consumed. Since Petroleum jelly is what we most commonly apply to our lips (chapstick) to keep them soft and moist, it is quite possible to digest more than desired. Read more…

According to an article in the Los Angeles Times (California may adopt more lenient graywater code in August, L.A. Times-7/6/09, By Susan Carpenter), California residents may finally find it easier to use “grey” water to irrigate their landscape. Everyone knows California is in it’s 4th year of below-average rainfall and water agencies throughout the state are requiring mandatory water cuts. Read more…

This past week I had a sore throat that I ended up going to the doctor for. He said that it was the start of something pretty bad and gave me antibiotics. The funk is going away now thank goodness. While I had the sore throat I was taking daytime medicine and constantly using store bought throat lozenges. The really good kind: honey-lemon with menthol and vapor action! As I was using them, I was thinking about what might be a natural way to reduce throat funk. Read more…
