Most of the residents of the West, including my home state of Colorado, go about their lives with precious little awareness of the precarious nature of our water supply. The lion’s share of our network – not unlike our banking system – is based on the Colorado River, and the foundation of that system is the Colorado Compact of 1922 upon which the bedrock water allocations for the seven states in the Southwest (from Colorado down to California) are based. Earth Hour, taking place at 8:30PM on March 28th, 2009, is the time to cast your vote for climate change. Anyone, anywhere can vote. All you have to do is turn off your lightswitch. Yup, that’s right. At 8:30PM your local time, where ever that may be, turn your electricity off for one hour. Dealing with energy and natural resource conservation on a day in, day out basis we rattle off words like “VOCs”, “Alternative Energy” and “Carbon Footprint” with little thought.
